Well Water Testing
Our Inspectors will perform a well water test by collecting a sample and providing a report of the laboratory’s results. The laboratory will analyze each well sample for Coliform Bacteria and Escherichia coli (E. coli), and provide a report of their results.
What are Coliform Bacteria and Escherichia coli?
- Coliform bacteria are a large group of many kinds of bacteria, including fecal coliform bacteria, which occur naturally in the intestines of warm-blooded animals.
- The group also includes non-fecal coliform bacteria. One species of fecal coliform bacteria is Escherichia coli. If E. coli or other fecal coliform bacteria are in well water, the water has come into contact with human or animal waste and could cause disease.
- People who drink water from a private well should have the water tested at least once a year to make sure that it is safe to drink.
Certified Radon Testing
Our Inspectors have successfully completed the Radon Measurement Professional Course, and successfully passed the National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP) Exam. We use Sun Nuclear 1028XP machines that are placed per EPA protocol for a minimum period of 60 hours.
Some facts about Radon:
- Radon is a cancer-causing natural radioactive gas that you can’t see, smell, or taste. Its presence in your home can pose a danger to your family’s health.
- Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, and the second leading cause of lung cancer in America. Radon is estimated to cause about 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year, according to the EPA’s 2003 Assessment of Risks from Radon in Homes. (EPA 402-R-03-003)
- The US Surgeon General and EPA recommend that all homes be tested for the presence of radon.
- You should test for radon and take action if your recorded radon level is greater than or equal to 4.0 pCi/L. Radon mitigation systems can reduce the level of radon to a safe level for your home.
